Internet a curse to reading culture: Information Minister Karki
KATHMANDU - Minister for Information and Communications Surendra Kumar Karki on Friday said the growing influence of internet has caused a decline in the traditional culture of book reading.
He, however, suggested that writers and litterateurs should create such works that meet the interest of readers to retain readership.
Minister Karki was saying this while launching a travelogue titled 'Aakhama Japan, Manma Nepal' authored by poet Shambhu Kumar Milan in the Capital.
Objecting to the trend of only honouring litterateurs and writers posthumously, he called for recognising them while alive.
Also on the occasion, acknowledging the important role of litterateurs in the holistic development of Nepali literature, Chancellor of Nepal Academy, Ganga Prasad Upreti, stressed the need for the State to honour their contribution. Various senior literary figures like Rastrakabi Madhav Ghimire were also present in the event.
