FM Mahat urges EU to lift ban on Nepal

KATHMANDU-  Foreign Minister Dr. Prakash Sharan Mahat has requested the high-level officials of the European Union to lift the ban EU imposed on Nepal's aviation.


Minister Dr. Mahat, who is currently on a visit to Europe, made such request with EU's Vice-President Frederica Mogherini on Wednesday. The EU has imposed a ban on Nepal's aviation citing inadequate safety standard.


During the meeting, Minister Dr. Mahat made aware the EU that Nepal had now met the criteria for aviation safety standard and there was the need for lifting the ban. In response, Mogherini said the EU would consider on the provision and agreed to work closely to enhance cooperation between EU and Nepal.


Upon the interest of the Vice-President on Nepal's political development, Minister Dr. Mahat briefed her of Nepali's political and constitutional development and the preparation for the elections. She extended best wishes for the success of elections in Nepal.
