Dhap Lake becoming an increasingly popular tourist attraction
ILAM - The Dhap Lake located at Jamuna in Sandakpur Village Council – 5 is being developed as a new tourist destination here in the district.
The lake spread over more than 50 ropanis in area is fringed by a fresh and glittering tea garden. The destination is located 22 km northwards from the district headquarters and is increasingly becoming a popular destination for domestic tourists from the various parts of the district and foreigners from Darjeeling in India and western countries.
The Chandrapal Thebe Dhap Wetland Conservation and Tourism Development Committee has released 8,000 species of fish in the lake. "We can attract tourists by naturally beautifying the lake and developing it as a new and different destination in the district," said Yuddha Baidya, who has been campaigning for the tourism development in the district.
Committee's Executive Director, Keshav Dhaurali, said a master plan must be developed for upgrading the Mechi's high hill locations as tourist destinations.
